Description

The need for forensic mental health evaluations has increased over the past few decades, as evidenced by the over-representation of people with mental illnesses or substance use disorders in the justice system. The disparity between the number of qualified forensic mental health evaluators and the need has led to delayed adjudication and subsequent lawsuits for violation of due process. This workshop will cover the basic components of forensic mental health evaluations as well as ethical and legal considerations to help mental health care providers increase their knowledge of the practice and better meet society’s mental healthcare needs.
