Educational Goal
The educational goal of this workshop is to increase participants’ understanding of Veteran culture.
Description
This presentation will begin with a biopsychosocial contextualization of the typical Marine recruit, then move to a discussion of both deindividuation and the emerging field of synchrony as they relate to military life. Along the way, examples of the myriad ways military cultural values are reinforced will be provided. The presentation will conclude with considerations for “meeting Veterans where they’re at.”

Presenters
Kenneth J. Thompson, LtCol, USMC (ret.), earned his Ph.D. in clinical psychology at Alliant International University-San Diego. He completed his psychology internship at VA West LA Healthcare System and his postdoctoral fellowship at VA San Diego Healthcare System. He is currently an adjunct instructor at Alliant International University and the associate director of the Trauma Research Institute.
