Educational Goal
The educational goal of this workshop is for participants to increase their understanding of the importance and implementation of mindfulness skill practices to enhance emotional regulation, distress tolerance, increase well-being and create necessary brain change to help individuals recover from substance use disorders.
Description
This workshop highlights the relevance and role of mindfulness/meditation practices and their impact on the brain, specifically in the context of addiction recovery. The group intersects our modern understanding of the brain in substance misuse, recovery, and mindfulness practices. Basic mindfulness skills will be explained, demonstrated, and tied into their role in recovery plans.

Presenters
David Armando Tejeda, LPC-S, is a seasoned substance use recovery professional and Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor with extensive expertise in trauma-informed care, residential substance use disorder (SUD) treatment, and mindfulness-based approaches to addiction recovery.
David specializes in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), addiction counseling and education, program development, and managing complex organizational change. His contributions include teaching graduate-level courses in Addiction Counseling and Family & Couples Counseling at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, consulting on the development of mindfulness-based SUD curricula, and delivering training on trauma-informed and trauma-focused approaches.
As Executive Director at Origins Texas Recovery Centers in South Texas, David is deeply committed to expanding access to effective residential treatment. He leads initiatives in strategic planning, leadership development, and fostering partnerships with local professionals and organizations to enhance community engagement and support sustained recovery success.
