This session empowers individuals with true self-knowledge by integrating psychological wisdom, biography work, and spirituality, grounded in various therapeutic models. In a world rife with pressures from social media, societal expectations, and familial obligations, many struggle to maintain their authentic selves, leading to aimlessness, depression, and anxiety.
Participants will explore aspects of the self, including physical traits, inherited gifts, personality, and deeper structures such as the ego and unconscious. The session delves into concepts of the higher self and shadow self, emphasizing understanding and managing both. Drawing on psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), humanistic therapy, and narrative therapy, the session provides a comprehensive framework for self-discovery.
Biography work constructs a self-image through life experiences, while spirituality offers purpose and enhances well-being. By the program’s end, participants will view their life story as a heroic journey, fostering genuine self-esteem and self-awareness. This newfound self-knowledge empowers them to live authentically and support others more effectively in their professional roles.
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
-
Identify the various postulated components, each giving insight to understanding what constitutes the whole self, and also put each component into the appropriate category: the physical (nature), the environmental (nurture), the inborn/innate endowments, and the traits acquired through the experiences of living.
-
Compare and contrast Erik Erickson’s 8 Stages of Man (9 with the addition by his wife, Joan) to the Biography Work’s model of human development, citing the differences and advantages of each.
-
Describe the Shadow Self as articulated by Carl Jung and the Higher Self, a concept now becoming more popular, including the content and functions of each as well as the methods to enhance, modulate and diminish the impact/power of each on the individual.
