 On day 1, we will cover the following:

  • – Types and kinds of disordered eating patterns we call eating disorders (DSM V)
  • – The connection between trauma, disordered eating, and body image
  • – Review the Adaptive Information Processing model 
  • – Understand affect tolerance, emotional avoidance, and dissociation with eating disorders.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify 3 elements common in clinically diagnosed eating disorders.

  • Apply an understanding of the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model to create a treatment plan for working with clients with eating disorders.

  • List the 8-phases of EMDR Therapy.

  • Identify 3 state change exercises that can be used in the preparation phase to prepare people with eating disorders to do EMDR.

DaLene Forester, PhD, LMFT, LPCC, CEDS-S, EMDRIA Trainer

DaLene Forester, PhD, has been Licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist since 1996 and as a Professional Clinical Counselor since 2013 in California. She maintains a private practice specializing in the consultation and treatment of PTSD, Eating Disorders, and Anxiety Disorders. Dr. Forester is EMDR certified, an EMDRIA-approved consultant, an EMDR Therapy Trainer, and a Past-President of the EMDR International Association.

In 2007, Dr. Forester founded the Advanced Education Institute, where she loves to provide interactive clinical training to Mental Health professionals in EMDR Therapy, Clinical Supervision, Clinical Treatment of Eating Disorders, and more.

Dr. Forester has presented professionally at the AAMFT, EMDRIA, EMDR Canada, and Western Psychological Association (WPA) Conferences. She has two chapters published in EMDR Solutions II, R Shapiro (ed.), W.W. Norton & Company, 2009, and one published in Trauma-Informed Approaches to Eating Disorders, A. Seubert and P. Virdi (ed.) Springer Publishing Company, LLC, 2019.

Lauren Kiser, PhD, LPC-S, CEDS-S, EMDRIA Trainer

Lauren Kiser specializes in the treatment of trauma, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, and substance use disorders. She has many years of experience treating complex issues in the inpatient, residential, PHP & outpatient level of care. Lauren is a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist Supervisor, a Certified EMDR Therapist, an EMDRIA Approved Consultant, and an Adult Complex Trauma & Dissociation Specialist. She utilizes EMDR therapy to treat trauma, anxiety disorders, addictive behaviors, and other life issues interfering with one’s well-being.

Lauren obtained a BA in Psychology at Texas Tech University where she was the lead research assistant in a Correctional Research Lab. Lauren obtained her MS from Lubbock Christian University and received the second highest score on the national comprehensive exam. She developed an eating disorder program for those suffering with co-occurring substance use disorders.

She has held the role of Clinical Director at treatment facilities (Inpatient, Residential, PHP, and IOP) and completed her doctorate degree focusing on addictive disorders and therapist’s competency to treat eating disorders. Many therapists call on her for advanced trauma training and consultation for her various specializations.
