Participants will be able to:

  • Identify and describe the psychotic disorders listed in the DSM.

  • Explain how differential diagnosis can increase understanding of psychotic disorders.

  • Identify at least 2 clinical tools for managing both positive and negative psychosis symptoms as providers to the SUD patient.

Educational Goal

The educational goal of this workshop is to expand clinical understanding and practical skills for identifying and working with patients with psychosis.

Description

This workshop will serve as clinical training to discuss the DSM diagnoses involving psychosis as they relate to treating the substance use patient populations. We will go into detail about differential diagnostic indicators for the patient population, as well as the procedure to best work a full differential on the presenting patient. Lastly, we will discuss practical clinical treatment plans individualized for each diagnosis.

Brandy Klingman, LCSW- BACS

Brandy Price Klingman is the CEO of St. Christopher’s Addiction Wellness Center and Legacy Behavioral Health in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Brandy has been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Louisiana helping thousands of patients suffering with addiction and overcoming mental health issues for nearly 20 years. She has developed programs and organizations that focus on treating the whole person and allowing patients to grow and flourish in a distraught society. Brandy is also a well known speaker in academia presenting on topics ranging from group psychotherapy to health care policy, a specialty of hers after working in Washington, DC on policy reform. Additionally, she is proud to serve as clinical supervisor for future providers pursuing masters and doctoral-level education.
