The educational goal of this workshop is to increase understanding of the ASAM Criteria Dimensions and Subdimensions.
Description
It is important for Peer Support Specialists to have a general understanding of the ASAM Criteria and levels of care to support and advocate for clients. This training will provide an overview of the ASAM Criteria, dimensions, levels of care, and types of care activities for each level. Examples of types of common therapeutic and Peer Supported topics will be discussed. The training will also include a brief overview of expectations at each level and common areas to focus on with clients who return to use.

Rick Jackson boasts an impressive educational background, having obtained a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Sacred Heart University and a Master of Social Work from LSU. In addition to his academic achievements, Rick is recognized as a master level addictions counselor (LAC), a certified compulsive gambling counselor (CCGC), and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker & Board Approved Clinical Supervisor.
Rick’s expertise extends across multiple fields, including addiction, crisis intervention, mental health, and education. With a career spanning the mental health field for 17 years, he has held diverse roles such as peer specialist, counselor, family counselor, IOP counselor, Director of Long-Term Services, Clinical Supervisor, HUD/VASH Supervisor, Adjunct Instructor for LSU School of Social Work, and Peer Specialist Supervisor.
Notably, Rick has made significant contributions to the field of mental health. He served as the Continuing Education Coordinator at LSU and played a key role in training and supervising staff at the Baton Rouge Crisis Intervention Center. His focus on delivering impactful programming for the mental health community has been widely recognized.
Currently, Rick holds the esteemed position of Director of Education & Training at HearMe in 30, Inc.. He has conducted training for over 10,000 individuals globally, including government teams. Rick’s commitment to professional development and his dedication to improving mental health services make him an invaluable asset in his role.
