Educational Goal

Participants are expected to gain competence in working with clients with perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.

Description

This presentation dives into the details of different perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs), including different diagnoses, symptoms and risk factors. We will discuss racial disparities and other considerations when it comes to working with PMADs such as barriers to care, infertility, and the mental health of non-birthing parents. Then, we will discuss the role that the clinician plays when working with clients to address PMADs, paying attention to different work settings. We will spend time exploring different ways we can assist our clients with healing from PMADs (addressing different healing modalities, with a brief discussion on birth story processing), and finally we will discuss resources which can support clinicians and clients in education, community, and healing.
