Description

Therapists are learning there are many benefits to incorporating animals into therapy. This workshop will discuss best practices to meet the ethical and humane components of therapy when you include animals. We will discuss the risks and benefits of including animals as well as risk management tools and precautions to protect the clinician, clients, and the animal.

Educational Goal

The educational goal of this workshop is to recognize the therapeutic benefits of including animals in therapy and learn best practices for doing so.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify at least two areas of risk when a live animal is included in therapy sessions and how to prepare and mitigate those risks.

  • Create a safety protocol for the wellbeing of clients, animals, and the therapists.

  • List three or more necessary components for preparing for the inclusion of an animal in a therapeutic practice.

Tara Moser, LCSW, RPT-S, C-AAIS

Tara Moser, LCSW, RPT-S, C-AAIS, specializes in working with children, adolescents, and families. She is the owner of Delta Family Counseling, LLC. She has a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Central Florida. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the States of Florida, Massachusetts, Virginia, Colorado, and Illinois. She is a qualified supervisor in Florida as well as a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor. Tara also holds the credential of Certified Animal Assisted Intervention Specialist. Tara specializes in Play Therapy with children 2 -18 years old and incorporates animals and play therapy into her clinical work, including her three dogs, Harry Pawter, Chewbarka, and Howly Quinn. Tara is actively involved in the Association for Play Therapy, The National Association of Social Workers, and serving as the President of the Florida Association. Tara is the founder of Pawsitive Kids Camp, a non-profit day camp for kids and rescue dogs that combines her passions of play therapy and rescue animals!
