Participants will be able to:

Describe the connection and risk of progression between social gambling and clinically diagnosed disordered gambling

Explain 1 emotional, 1 behavioral and 1 psychological aspect of problematic and disordered gambling.

Identify at least 3 personality traits that lend themselves to addiction and problematic gambling.

Identify 2 or more vulnerable populations at risk for problematic gambling behaviors.

Identify 2 screening tools, 2 treatment modalities, and 2 recovery resources that can be used with those struggling with addiction and their loved ones.

The educational goal of this workshop is to increase understanding of disordered gambling and treatment.
Description
Problem gambling is linked to many individual, public health, and social problems including: depression, suicide, significant debt, bankruptcy, family conflict, domestic violence, neglect and maltreatment of children and criminal offenses. As with any addiction, treatment and early intervention utilizing various approaches can be very effective. This workshop will provide an overview and analysis of gaming and gambling, identifying vulnerabilities as well as the behavioral, emotional and psychological warning signs. Considerations for recovery will be addressed including screening, treatment and key principles and barriers faced by those who struggle with addiction as well as loved ones.

Presenters
Dan is the Vice President of Prevention in the U.S. for EPIC Risk Management after serving as the Assistant Executive Director for the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey, better known as 800-GAMBLER. Dan has worked with stakeholders in over 35 states and has delivered hundreds of workshops, trainings, and keynote presentations around the country centered on prevention, education, and emerging trends in the world of sports betting, gaming and internet gambling. He has shared his story on the YouTube Channel, Soft White Underbelly by Mark Laita and co-hosts a 30 minute podcast and weekly radio show across the country called, “Hello My Name Is Craig” with fellow gambler in recovery and top radio show host for sports radio in the NYC area market, Craig Carton.
