Culture is an enduring element, a tradition that is embedded in every human thought, emotion, and behavior. Culture is also a key factor that upholds normed belief patterns that maintain physical and psychological health and contributes to healthcare outcomes. This presentation is for professionals interested in learning how to integrate the patient’s cultural traditions and beliefs into effective clinical treatment with Hispanic and Latino individuals.

The educational goal of this workshop is to increase participants’ understanding of integrating patients’ cultural traditions and beliefs into effective clinical treatment with Hispanic and Latino individuals.
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

Explain social and historical determinants of health.

Discuss three ways social and historical determinants of health impact the Hispanic and Latino populations.

Identify and describe two or more cultural elements or values that inform assessment and treatment interventions with Hispanic and Latino individuals

Identify two or more culturally responsive approaches in health care and discuss the historical significance of these approaches.

Prepare to use two or more culturally informed engagement strategies in practice.
