Description
Our country faces an unprecedented mental health crisis among people of all ages. The trauma, grief, loss and isolation associated with the pandemic has driven Americans in all demographics to a breaking point with depression, substance abuse and suicide attempts increasing.
Even prior to the pandemic, suicide attempts and completions were on the rise, especially among the young and older adults aged 65 and above. The CDC reports that there were 1.2 million suicide attempts in 2020 and 3.2 million Americans had a plan for suicide. A suicide and suicide attempts affect the health and well-being of friends, loved ones, co-workers, and the community. Our discussion will look at what happens when a suicide of a co-worker and/or family member occurs within our organization and how we best respond when a patient that is in our care dies by suicide.
