Educational Goal

Participants will learn about how trauma presents differently in the aging population.

Description

The older adult population often presents with unique issues experienced by no other age group. Overall, the number of individuals impacted by trauma co-occurring with a substance use disorder is significant. However, in the older adult population, almost 100% of individuals presenting to treatment have been impacted by trauma. Recognizing and addressing trauma with this population may pose distinctive challenges when compared with younger generations. This presenter will share her experience working on trauma with a variety of populations. Inspired by her work as Clinical Director at Hanley Center, and her dissertation work on trauma, Dr. De Lima will explore the difference age makes in the presentation and treatment of trauma.
