About the Training

This 1.5 hour seminar provides community health professionals with increased knowledge and understanding of dementia, as well as provides skills to promote more productive interactions with those affected. The goal of this workshop is to improve caregiver and patient experiences and to promote well-being among individuals with dementia.

Dr. William Patrick Gahan

Dr. William Patrick Gahan is a Geriatric Medicine Specialist in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He graduated with honors from Louisiana State University School Of Medicine In New Orleans in 1979.

He has over 30 years’ experience in the diagnosis and management of Alzheimer’s disease. He was previously on staff at Lake Primary Physicians and held many positions during his tenure at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, including Chief of Staff, Medical Director, Chief and Vice Chief of Medicine Division, Medical Executive Committee, Chairman of Utilization Review and Quality Assurance Committee.

Since 2008, Gahan has been a medical investigator for MCI and AD Clinical trials at the Institute for Dementia Research and Prevention (IDRP) at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center. He serves as Vice Chairman of the Pennington Biomedical Research Center Institutional Review Board. After leaving his practice at Lake Primary Care Physicians in 2015, Gahan joined the IDRP research team on a full-time basis.

Dr. Gahan is a Fellow with the American College of Physicians, and holds memberships in the American Geriatrics Society, American Medical Directors Association, Louisiana State Medical Society, East Baton Rouge Parish Medical Society, and the American College of Utilization Review Physicians.

Mary Anne Olivier, RN

Mary Anne Olivier is currently a Nurse Liaison with Feliciana Home Health in the Greater Baton Rouge area. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Southeastern Louisiana University, Hammond, LA.   She serves as a volunteer speaker for the Alzheimer’s Services of the Capital Area Speaker’s Bureau.  Her past presentations include Managing Challenging Behaviors in Alzheimer’s Care, Care giving, Hygiene, and Safety in the home and community.
