In this presentation, participants will learn about the mental health disparities that exist for LGBTQIA+ individuals. We will discuss how these disparities can be understood in the context of the minority stress model. Finally, clinical implications and affirmative interventions will be presented.

The educational goal of this workshop is to teach participants about LGBTQIA+ mental health disparities resulting from minority stress.
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

Identify 3-5 mental health disparities that exist for LGBTQIA+ individuals.

Describe the minority stress model and how it is used to understand the mental health disparities.

Identify 3-5 ways to use understanding about the minority stress model to provide LGBTQIA+ affirmative care.
