Description

This workshop covers trauma resolution and addiction treatment using Somatic Experiencing and Polyvagal Theory.  It features two experts: one will teach Somatic Experiencing techniques for trauma resolution and the other will cover Polyvagal Theory’s application to addiction.

 

Participants will learn to use Somatic Experiencing to address trauma by focusing on the five elements from Interpersonal Neurobiology that Somatic Experiencing utilizes that help regulate the nervous system. The second part will explore how Polyvagal Theory applies  to addiction and offers strategies for supporting clients’ physiological regulation.

 

The workshop includes practical exercises and case studies to integrate these approaches into your practice.It is suitable for mental health professionals and addiction counselors looking to enhance their practice with these integrated approaches.

Dr. Kimberly Dunkin PysD

Kimberly is passionate about integrating neuroscience research with practical applications to help clinicians access protocols for clients dealing with PTSD, somatic issues, attachment issues, and particularly developmental trauma. She is the owner and founder of 14 Peaks Neurophysiological Trauma Treatment. 

 

Kimberly holds a Doctorate in Psychology, a master’s degree in Professional Counseling, and a master’s degree in Religious Education. She is a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP), SE assistant, a Body and Somatic Education Practitioner (BASE-P), and a session provider for beginner level SE students. She is also trained in EMDR, Interpersonal Neurobiology, The Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics, Neuroaffective Touch, and DBT. 

 

Her doctoral dissertation is titled *A Neurophysiological Treatment Plan for Neurosequential Deficits Due to Developmental Trauma.

 

Kimberly and her husband of 31 years have a musically gifted college-aged son and are actively involved in the adoption community. In the earlier part of her life, Kimberly was a teacher, soccer coach, and martial arts instructor. She was fortunate to have sports as a major part of her life, playing college soccer and concluding her competitive career as an extreme expedition adventure racer. In her free time, she enjoys outdoor activities such as riding ATVs, paddle boarding, kayaking, and skiing.

Michael McGee, LPC

Michael McGee is a dedicated and compassionate clinician with 10 years of professional experience in a residential treatment setting, including 2 years of compliance and clinical oversight at the director level, counseling individuals, families, and groups. Michael has expertise in working with individuals suffering from substance abuse, mental health conditions, including trauma, anxiety, and major depression, and with those in acute crisis who struggle with suicidal ideation. He currently provides individual therapy to clients through a neurophysiological trauma focus in an outpatient setting, utilizing specialized knowledge and understanding of crisis thinking with emphasis on client safety.
