This presentation will explore the treatment strategies for patients with substance use disorders, focusing on recognizing comorbid psychiatric disorders at all ASAM levels of care. Specific treatments for both substance use and psychiatric disorders will be discussed with an emphasis on working with a multidisciplinary treatment team. Harm reduction with the goal of improving retention in treatment will also be covered.

The educational goal of this workshop is to increase understanding of treatment modalities for substance use disorders and comorbid psychiatric disorders.
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

Summarize current treatment modalities for substance use disorders.

Explain how to recognize and treat co-occurring psychiatric disorders.

Explain the importance of harm reduction and multi-disciplinary approach to treatment with the goal of improved treatment retention and improved overall treatment outcomes.
