Trauma is widespread and can affect many areas of life. In this presentation, we will explore:

  • • The history of identifying trauma
  • • How to define trauma
  • • Understanding the ACE study
  • • How trauma affects the biological and neurological systems
  • • How trauma impacts the survivor
  • Learning trauma-informed care principles

Educational Goal

The educational goal of this workshop is to learn how to identify trauma, learn about adverse childhood experiences and how they can impact individuals later in life, learn about how trauma manifests behaviorally and cognitively, and how to apply trauma-informed care principles to our work.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the history of identifying trauma.

  • Define trauma.

  • Describe the ACE study.

  • Identify at least 2 ways how trauma affects the biological and neurological systems.

  • Identify at least 2 ways how trauma impacts the survivor.

  • Explain how to apply trauma-informed care principles to peer support.

This workshop is approved for 2 hours of annual required continuing education credits by the Louisiana Department of Health, Office of Behavioral Health for LA Recognized Peer Support Specialists.

Jamie Bailey, M.S, LCDC, RSPS, PRSS, PRS

Jamie Bailey is a person in long term recovery. She is a certified peer recovery support specialist, certified peer support supervisor and trainer of other peer support specialists. She holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy, a master’s degree in mental health counseling and is a licensed chemical dependency counselor. She is a yoga teacher (RYT200).
