As of September 1, 2020, completion of an HHS-approved human trafficking course is a condition for registration, permit, or license renewal for certain health care practitioners in Texas. This 1 CE workshop on Human Trafficking Awareness is specifically designed for public health professionals in Texas to provide essential knowledge and skills to combat human trafficking effectively. In this comprehensive workshop, participants will explore the multifaceted aspects of human trafficking, including the types, signs, legal frameworks, trauma-informed care, and intervention strategies. Beth Eversole, a seasoned professional in the field, will delve into real-life case studies, ethical considerations, and collaborative approaches tailored for Public Health professionals. Participants will gain the expertise needed to recognize, respond to, and prevent human trafficking within the realm of Public Health.

This training is divided into six modules:

  4. Identification & Assessment

  5. Response & Follow-up

Educational Goal

The educational goal of this course is to provide participants with the knowledge, skills, and ethical insights needed to comprehensively understand, effectively intervene in, and proactively prevent human trafficking.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify 2 or more types of human trafficking.

  • Recognize 4 or more signs and/or indicators of human trafficking across diverse settings.

  • Explain the human trafficking legal frameworks.

  • Identify 2 or more vulnerable populations at risk of trafficking.

  • Discuss how to apply trauma-informed care principles when providing psychological and emotional support to trafficked persons.

  • Explain how to balance client privacy with legal responsibilities, ensuring appropriate support.

  • Examine the design and implementation of community education and outreach initiatives for human trafficking prevention.
