Description

During this workshop, we will review the theory of Moral Intuition by Dr. Jonathan Haidt, which offers a critical new understanding of emotions and moral development. The presenter will facilitate an exercise called “Depolarization From Within,” which is designed to foster skills to help lessen the effects of polarization when encountered in political conversations. (Depolarization From Within was developed and shared via Braver Angels Organization). We will also explore Dr. Bill Doherty’s work of LAPP (Listening, Exploring, Affirming, and offering Perspective) when working with clients. We will end with a discussion of how we can practice LEAP personally and in our communities.

Amanda L. Thomas, MPhEd, LMFT is a licensed marriage and family therapist (Idaho) and clinical consultant. Amanda has leveraged her diverse background in sports coaching, outdoor intervention programs, psychology, and marriage and family therapy to build a successful private practice and she is the owner and founder of Integrative Approach and the co-founder and CEO of Cobalt Family Consulting.

Amanda specializes in personalized assessments, recommendations and case management
for placements of addiction & dual diagnosis treatment, therapeutic, emotional and social development programs, relationship issues, workshops and retreats. She works with families to identify therapeutic needs, provide professional recommendations to other
healthcare professionals and programs, case manage clients’ continuum of care. Clients range from adolescents to adults needing relational, emotional and behavioral solutions as well as mental health and addiction solutions.

Raised in Pennsylvania, Amanda has a Bachelor’s degree in experimental psychology from Gettysburg College, a Master’s degree in Physical Education and Adventure Psychology from the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand and a Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) certificate from the Denver Family Institute.
