Description

There is no shortage of options when choosing treatment modalities for addressing trauma issues in therapy. One strategy is to learn about therapeutic frameworks that can be integrated with other approaches to enhance your work with clients. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an empirically supported approach to the treatment of trauma and related conditions. ACT is a meaningful choice in and of itself and serves as an effective complementary approach when paired with other known treatment frameworks. ACT is a comprehensive, transdiagnostic approach that expands beyond diagnostic criteria and addresses universal processes that are inherent within all human beings’ suffering. ACT is effective for a range of client populations across all levels of care including individuals suffering with trauma and associated conditions, anxiety, depression, substance use, eating disorders, and other destructive, avoidant behaviors. With a focus on mindfulness, intrinsic experience, and behavioral change, ACT is especially appealing for clinicians and therapeutic programs that value clinical depth combined with practical application. Participants in this training will engage in a focused review of rigidity and flexibility processes related to the treatment of trauma responses through case conceptualization, treatment planning, and development of clinical skills. This presentation is intended for participants in facility-based and private practice settings.
