Description

When adolescents come to treatment, it is not just the child who is stuck.  The child is a reflection of the environment of the family system.  In most cases, the stuck patterns are because of enmeshment.’

In this presentation, Krissy will be discussing how to re-write the parent-child script.  When parents see and understand their enmeshed patterns and learn to step into their parental authority, they will increase security and attachment for their children. Krissy will be discussing concepts such as enmeshment, parental authority, attunement, boundaries, reframing, safe struggle and healthy separation.

Target Audience
  • Counselors
  • Substance Use Disorder Professionals
  • Psychologists
  • Social Workers
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists
Educational Goal

The educational goal of this workshop is for participants to understand that enmeshment happens when parents take responsibility for the feelings and behaviors of their child, which impedes the child’s ability to build skills, self-regulate and individuate.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize enmeshment in the parent-child relationship system when the parent-child relationship is stuck.

  • Identify the 5 Principles of The Parallel Process which promote healthy separation in the parent-child relationship which fosters a child's skill development, emotional maturation, and individuation.
