She provides high quality consultation, coaching, technical assistance, and training to organizations, systems and communities on the organizational and clinical strategies that support advancing TIRO, equity-focused approaches. She has more than 25 years of experience providing therapy, treatment, project and resource development for children, youth, adults and families living with serious mental illnesses and serious emotional disturbances.

About Michelle LaFitte

Michelle LaFitte is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with over 17 years of experience working in behavioral health. She has worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including: depression, anxiety, substance abuse, incarcerations, relationship issues (individual), ODD, ADHD, and Bipolar. She has also helped people who have dealt with all types of trauma (emotional, physical, and verbal). She uses an eclectic approach to therapy and likes to combine Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy.

About the Workshop

Trauma is a near universal experience of individuals who seek assistance from providers. Addressing trauma is now the expectation, not the exception. This training explores the connection between behavior and trauma, and identifies resilience‐oriented trauma‐informed ways to intervene with all those we serve. Participants learn what being trauma‐informed looks like, and key strategies for implementing this approach, as well as highlighting the connection between self‐care and compassion fatigue.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  1. Define trauma and resilience.
  2. Understand the prevalence and impact of trauma, including understanding findings from the ACE study.
  3. Be aware of the neuro/bio/psycho/social impact of trauma.
  4. Explain the connection between behavior and trauma and ways to intervene with those we serve in a trauma‐informed, resilience‐oriented manner.
  5. Understand the connection between self‐care and compassion fatigue.
